  • Each HATCHER amp is dynamically different, it has it's own voice. Our cabinets are built by MOJO Tone (finger jointed pine)and slightly modified by us (just the way we mount the speakers). Today's cabinets are produced with modern methods and materials, plywood, particle board, glues, etc., all of which produce a controlled, uniform sound. We mount our speakers directly to a pine baffle board and then mount the baffle board, wood to wood, to the pine cabinet. We use the wood's natural resonant properties to enhance the sound. Instead of the speaker frame being mounted to a rigid or otherwise vibration absorbing material, ours are mounted to live wood baffle boards which resonates in response to the speaker cone. This response alters or changes the mechanical frequency of the cone ever so slightly and at different resonant frequencies. This gives the sound of the speaker a little character.
  • We also use Weber VST speakers in all our amps. Dogs have always been man's best friend and Weber's Blue Dog and Blue Pup speakers are no exception. In my opinon, (of course I tend to lean towards the Blue Jean flavored side of things) they are the best sounding speakers on the market today, hands down. They are strong, loud, proud and consistent even after playing them for an hour or two, no change. They are right there with the same sound the started out with. Great company, great people, phenomenal speakers. Hand built right here in good old' USA, but the defiantly have a British accent.

Sometimes I think that the word "reissue" in today's marketing terms means "we have used the same architecture but, the building materials are new and hi tech". So it looks like a duck, walks like a ducks, it sooorrrta quacks like a duck...I guess it's a duck, what do you think?

Vacuum tubes add color and depth to sound as opposed to the dry digital nature of transistors. All of our chassis are individually hand wired like they were back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Care is taken to use wiring techniques that lend themselves to lower white noise levels. The components themselves are selected for their closeness to their original counterparts. Our leanings are towards quality workhorses as opposed to one trick ponies. Quality is never compromised over cost. Tube selection is also important, again we lean toward the stronger workhorse brands like Svetlana, JJ's, EH's, Ei, and Sovtek. We use Hoffman layouts in all our amps. We just try to do all the right things and all the things right. Quality doesn't cost any more in the long run, and we're here for the long run.

Are Hoffman Board that much better? You bet. For the short answer and most definitely for the long answer as well. Doug Hoffman reinvented the wheel with his clean cut approach to component layout and wiring technique. His layouts produce less white noise than their original counter part. They are quieter. Over the years, Doug has found many of the weak links that were in the originals and has made them as strong as the rest of the circuit. Like the 100 ohm resistors in the heater and pilot light circuit. Like his better bias circuit. Stiffer B+ filter caps. These changes have little or no effect on the sound of the amp but make the amp run more efficiently, make the amp electronically stronger and finally make the amp last longer. They are better and if you ever had the pleasure of hearing one, or better yet playing through one, the difference is immediately noticed. It's a good thing.

Can anyone install a board kit? No. You must have electronic knowledge, good soldering skills and a complete understanding the circuitry you are working on, If you don't, DO NOT attempt it. Get a qualified electronic technician to do the work for you. There are voltages inside an amp that can and will THRILL IF NOT KILL YOU and don't let your ego tell you any different.

What is the best method for shipping? UPS Ground is the most reasonable. UPS NEXT DAY is plenty expensive. 2nd Day UPS isn't too bad. Keep in mind that UPS has on occasion been known to break dirt. The U.S. Mail (Priorty Mail) is pretty reasonable and promises 2 day delivery for around $10.00. Not bad at all.

Overseas orders, under ten pounds are best handles through the U.S. Mail (Air). They promise 5-7 day delivery in most countries such as England, Spain, Italy, France, etc. and is usually cost under $26.00.
